Ok. Life. Menards has been weird. I’ve done most of my training with Kris. I sort of freak out yesterday, because, my first full day they give me a sales goal of $280 per hour. I don’t even know how to use the computer yet. Since I was just tailing people, I didn’t sell a thing. Today working with Roger seemed to tie up the loose ends much better. I find out this sales goal means nothing. I have the same goal as the manager of the department. It isn’t based on experience or anything. And it’s just a goal. It is not used to see if they should fire you or give you a raise. It’s basically to scare you into selling more expensive stuff to customers. Rumors spread really fast in Kalamazoo. Roger asked me today if my Dad ran DC. I just stared at him for a minute. During my interview I told them my Dad works in the Raceshop and my brother used to work at the DC. Talk about a grapevine. I’m becoming slightly independent there now. Learning the common questions, and how to ask an idiot a question so that they actually explain what they want. A guy got mad at me today because I wouldn’t get him two forklift operators. He was getting two different doors and was in a very big hurry. I just looked at him and told them they were busy, he would have to wait. How can you be so busy that you need the people to load up doors simultaneously? I mean, he even walked slowly. I need a hat that says trainee. Everyone comes up to me asking questions about how to build a house. I’m in millwork, not building materials, and I’m a college student, not a construction worker. I never realized dogs were allowed in Menards until today. Lots of people actually walked around with theirs. Katie, Jacki, Lindsey, and a few others came to my place last night. We played Frisbee on East Campus. Went to dinner at Cozmo’s. Really good food. Extremely poor service. The waitress was tipped in change for a bill close to $60. Went to Katie & Jackie’s house and drank. Vodka floats are really good. I let them do make-up on me again. They did really good this time. I think with less eye make-up it could have almost looked normal on a guy. I have scab like rash type thing on my eyelids now. All raw and sore. Oh well. Had fun. | |
