I can now say that I've read all 649 pages of The Poisonwood Bible. Now I just got to figure out how to do the project!

yes, i have *lots* of summer reading. well, not lots. two books, two papers. haven't done most of it, and I go back to school wednesday. *go me* at least your book was good and something, oddly enough, that I have been *dying* to read. but we did have to read The Alchemist, which was actually quite good.

p.s. You're welcome *also blushes profusely*

We had loads of reading as well. In addition to The Poisonwood Bible, we had to read A Prayer for Owen Meany, which was pretty good. (Again another 600 and some page book!) What's the Alchemist about and what other book did you have to read? Do you go to a public school?

Re: Re: Re: Re:, 09-01-03 10:54pm

The Alchemist is about a boy going in search of his personal destiny. Along the way he meets an alchemist, and every word in the entire book is dripping with meaning. Since it is such a short book, it got kind of sickening to read, because there was no break from the depth. The entire book is a metaphor for life. Even so, I would recommend it highly. The other book I had to read was called Princess, and it was the true story of a Saudi Arabian princess, and how women are treated. It was good, a well-written book, but not my type of reading. And I am *so* sorry that you had to read two books that were that long, I don't know *what* I would have done :-)

p.s. No, I don't go to a public school. Why do you ask?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:, 09-02-03 2:14am

Then what school do you go to? And what is with the private/nonpublic schools giving us summer reading!?! It should be our constitutional right to let our brain rot to mush over the summer! Quick, let's form a pact and organize a revolt against summer reading! ; )

I go to the Harrisburg Academy, but I can't see how that matters much since I'm quite sure no one has ever heard of it. I thoroughly agree, though, that we should be allowed to let our brains drain themselves of ALL knowledge over the summer, no matter how much of a shock it may be when we first arrive in school again. We have just as much right! :-) And hey, if we get enough people to join our pact, they'll *have* to listen to us! *looks around wistfully as that will never happen*
