Music: "Gravedigger" -Dave Matthews
Everyone look at today's song. *waits till you actually look up, even though I told you to*....see the artist? That's right. It's not a typo. Dave Matthews. Not Dave Matthews Band. Today I got Dave's debut solo album. EVERYONE GO BUY IT! : ) I got the tee-shirt too, and an exclusive cd from the tour with tim reynolds because I'm a warehouse member. And because I'm special. So now all you guys on my bus can stop yelling at me, I will NOT be listening to Busted Stuff in the morning. But I will bring it to school, in case I miss it on the bus to the game. Stupid Thursday game..

I just got home from school. It's like 9 o'clock. I went out to dinner with my Uncle Bob and his new fiancee. The whole thing is kind of weird. First of all, Susan (his fiancee) bears a noticable resemblance to his two ex-wives. Not physical, but her personality and stuff. Second, and this is the part I dont get, he broke up with his last wife on the issue of children. She wanted em, he has two older kids with his first wife, and didn't want more. Funny thing is, post-divorce, his new fiancee has 2 boys, 11 and 13. Just seems kind of odd. Oh well, he's not the weirdest part of my family...

On a more band related note, I still suck at pit, and I'm still spending a good amount of time practicing. I almost have the third song down though. "I'm working on it." I think I say that to markgraf like 10 times every day. I need to play louder, apparently. A LOT louder. (But I thought it was full, not loud!) That's the one thing that I get yelled at the most for. "Lauren, play out. I can't hear you at all up there." Mmmm...yea, I guess I do. It's just hard to hit those stick thingies any harder against the marimba than I am already. But I'm working on it. Excessively. I'm such a bando now. Even Amy says so. I spend every waking moment practicing. Much of it is on the piano/desk/dashboard, but it still counts. Today Amanda called me Skillet in front of Mr. Markgraf. He laughed at me.

This is a really boring entry. Nothing else happened. I'm gonna go listen to some Dave now.

Uncle Bob. Hehe. Uncle Bob! That's just fun to say. XD That whole dealy is a little odd though.

As for the loudness. Yeah, you do. : P We can sorta hear you sometimes, but everything echoes weirdly out there. (There I go with that 'we' again.) Do you hit the marimba keys (is that what you call them?) right in the center? That might improve your sound clarity and volume somewhat if you don't already.

And then he called you several variations of 'Skillet'. Wasn't one of them "fried skillet" or something like that? (Because that one doesn't make sense. Actually, that might make it more likely to have been his actual words.) Yeah, I have nothing interesting to say, lol.

I'm working on it! And yes, I am hitting it in the center...I just don't hit it hard enough or ...something. I think it was "home fried skillet" if I remember correctly..

Yo.

Sorry I took so long to reply to your journal. I promise to not ever procrastinate again.

Oh, who am I kidding?

I'm very glad that you've become such a bando - it's the bando equilibrium. When one person leaves, taking excessive band spirit with them, someone rises up in their place. So I'm very proud of you for taking up the cross! I guess I should really thank Mr.Markgraf as well for being such an inspiration.

New NUMB News? Not only do we play Hey Baby! in the stands, we also play Ants Marching! See, see? You should apply to Northwestern.

Classes started yesterday, and it turns that I was very lucky to have registered at all. There was a whole deal about it where the site that people register on crashed and didn't work, but I evidently got in right before it went down. I'm taking my freshman seminar, which is a Poli Sci class, Intro to Psych (which has 300 people in it, but the professor is cool, he sang Mary Poppins to us today!), Intro to British Lit which is a hell of a lot of reading, and my professor is kind of like a mad scientist, and beginning spanish! Yay Spanish, it's so much easier than french!

10 Fun Facts About Northwestern:
1. There are hundreds of squirrels on the grounds, and what's more, they obey all traffic laws.
2. There's great water pressure... until the pipes freeze.
3. Everyone knows the words of the school fight song.
4. People somehow party every night and still go to class (?).
5. Students get lots and lots of discounts at stores in town ; ).
6. Part of tuition money goes to redo the landscape every two weeks (grr).
7. Most buildings are heavily covered in ivy, giving the effect of living inside a victorian decorated jungle.
8. Journalism students print a newspaper daily which is distributed free of charge, and which people sometimes wrap around themselves to block the wind.
9. Northwestern houses the second largest building in North America (the first being the Pentagon), and it is rumored that if you got lost there, you could feasibly starve to death, or at least cut class for a very long time.
10. IT'S FREAKING COLD!

I had been planning on posting the fun alchohol story on here, but then thought I should put a hold on it, due to the sensitive nature of the content. I'll leave it to your discretion. (heh heh heh)

I really miss you a lot, and I wish I could give you a big hug because I don't really know anyone here well enough to hug.

I'll be home soon, there are only nine weeks left in the quarter!

Love from Nikki

ANTS MARCHING?! That is soooo cool!!! I would go, but I dont want to FREEZE to death! So I'll go to school in Philadelphia. Yes.

Nikki, I miss you SOOO MUCH!!! *hug!* see? I'm working on it! : )

Love the squirrels. That's great. You could have posted the alcohol story. Like it didn't happen... I MEAN... Whoops. Surely, I have never consumed alcohol. That would be crazy, for I am 17. Right.

Can't wait to see you!! Oh, good news. My soon-to-be-step-aunt (o.O) lives in Chicago!! She's like 8 miles away from the northwestern campus. Can you say visit? ; )
