Sydney murdered Sark's father.
Jack became alcoholic after Irina's death.
Vaughn became alcoholic after Syd's death.

Jack wasn't sure if she was alive, by virtue of the high risk spy business. But remember, everyone except Sloane thought that Irina was dead after she left Sydney when Syd was 6 years old. Yet another parallel.
