| School Daze Little Miss WNV I crouch down in my seat on the bus, hugging my coffee cup. As I take a sip out of it my glasses fog up so I remove them. My fellow students are indistinct black blobs. I return my glasses to their rightful place on my nose. The people on the bus are no longer indistinct black blobs but rather, distinct black blobs now. It's too early to be awake. It's too cold to be awake. No one should be awake. Every school day we struggle to our bus stop at this ungodly hour just so we can stand around in the freezing cold so that when the bus arrives we climb on it, sit in our solitary seats and stare catatonically out the window. Most people stare straight ahead, a few people, striving to be different, look out the side windows. When we arrive at school we get to force ourselves to stay awake. Some people just give into temptation, flop down on their desk and sleep peacefully. More studious pupils look at them enviously and continue to force them selves to remain in an alert state. Some of them (myself included) have a lovely collection of bruises resulting from repetitive pinching they have administered to themselves in a sometimes vain effort to stay awake. Now wouldn't it make more sense if school started later? Scores on every type of test would almost definitely improve if students could actually stay awake when the subject was being taught or in some instances, while the test was being taken.
