i just finished reading a book last night called Keeper of the Night by Kimberly Willis Holt. it's a good book. I'll type down the lil' blurb thing for y'all to see what it's all aboot....

Whenever i think of my mother, something fills up inside of me like water filling a bucket.

Isabel's mother died peacefully. At least that's what Isabel likes to think, since no one will talk about the truth. But the truth has a way of revealing itself at night. Tata sleeps curled up on the floor right where her mother's body was found. Olivia wets her bed and wakes repeatedly from nightmares, and Frank starts carving his anger into the bedroomwall. It's up to Isabel to help her family get beyond the pain and loss-to be the keeper of the night. But who will be there for Isabel and help her through to the other side?

Kimberly Willis Holt has written a painfully beautiful story, set on the lush island of Guam, about a young woman's struggle to protect her family after her mother's suicide. At once devastating and hopeful, disturbing and honest, Isabel's voice is aching to be heard-because some wounds can't heal until the truth has finally been spoken.

it was a really good book...there were three poems in it that really...caught my attention....

The boy who likes to bleed

some can cry
he can only bleed
every drop of blood
is a tear shed
he wears his scars like badges
for his eyes alone
i wish he'd scream
i wish he's cry
but he just bleeds

I hat

razor blade on the floor.
frank asleep.
asleep?
"i h-a-t" carved in his arm.
no "e".
no "y-o-u".
blood on his bed,
on his floor,
on his arm.
son! cries tata.
dr. johnson plays doctor.
what's wrong? we ask.
what's wrong? we cry.
call 911.
the ambulance from talofofo arrives
and carries frank away.
tata and dr.johnson follow.
we stare at the road
even after the ambulance and truck disappear.
now who is going to eat
besides the flies
circling the fiesta table?

frank's hospital room

white
windowless
two beds
two boys
too many scars

blah :P I'm sorry, I can't stand goth poetry. I can stand something if it's got structure but no soul- I can stand something with soul but no structure- but something totally sans structure and soul makes me feel like the dentists have been drilling my teeth again...

first of all, stereotypes suck, so please don't use 'em (see rachel, i'm learning ^_^). Second, it ain't "goth" poetry, it's feelings written down on paper from a girl whose life is falling apart all around her, so *insert loud, juicy raspberry here*
