Subject: Reason I set Brand New apart from all the other emo bands...
I feel I need to explain why I hate Brand New so much. So, I'm going to explain myself now.

Brand New is an emo band, and I hate them. You might be asking yourself, why do you hate Brand New? Don't you like Thursday? aren't they an Emo Band? well, here is my answer to all these questions. Thursday is an emo band, yes. I do like them, yes. And I hate brand new for 4 reasons.

1- They are gay



Rainboy? that could have easily been mistaken for Rainbow, you fucking fruit.

2 - Their lyrics suck

lets take an example from their lyrics from the song "play crack the sky"

Your tongue is a rudder.
It steers the whole ship.
Sends your words past your lips
Or keeps them safe behind your teeth.


What the fuck is that supposed to mean? is their a boat in your mouth? I mean, I'm pretty good about listening to words and then understanding metaphors. This definitly takes the cake for stupid metaphors, thereby supporting statement number 1. Now don't think I dont' have something to back that up. Let's look at an example from a thusday song, entitled, "For The Workforce, Drowning":

Falling from the topfloor your lungs fill like parachutes
windows go rushing by
the people inside are dressed for a funeral, in black and white

Now I understand this, Geoff is obviously talking about cooperations and their employees. This can be drawn from the title of the song, and the lyrics given. It gives you the feeling of deadness in the workplace, as well as repetition day after day. Do you see the coorelation between the title and the lyrics in the brand new song? I think not. What the hell does crack have to do with a boat in some girls mouth? Brand new seems to have problems with the word, Coherent. Maybe they mean that her tongue is the boat that is playing with his crack. Maybe the she is a he. Yeah, brand new would be like that. Faggots.

3 - Jesse Lacey is a Candle Fag

Now if you haven't heard me give this schpeil on this, than I am referring to the video for the song "The Quiet Things That Noone Knows". You know, the part where Jesse looks like he's about to cry because he has a candle shoved up his ass. There's all these candles in the foreground, and he "emotionally" sings into his microphone. The props guy obviously forgot to tell Jesse that he needed to sit on a stool, not a candle.
This all in all just really adds the fire of hate I have for Brand New. Also in that video, if you will note, The guitar player/singer is wearing this hat sideways and has the brim pointing up. Alright, say it with me kids, Q-U-E-E-R. Take off your silly ass hat, and stop dancing like a fag and just sing the Damn song!!

3 - They have a whole page on their websites devoted to those little pictures that scroll the lyrics to their songs

I FUCKING HATE THOSE THINGS. They completely ruin the meaning to any song by making it available for people to post and state, "Hey, I'm a brand new fan, And I like to ruin songs for you by being a teenage deuchebag!!!" Even dusty couldn't ruin Taking Back Sunday for me, I mean, He introduced them to me, but that doesn't stop them from ruining them for me. Then one day I looked at Stacy Cain's journal and I tried to listen to the CD and it just didn't have the same meaning. It was covered up by the musical ignorance of an emo journal.

4 - They sound completely different then they used to

back in 2001 and before they sounded like every other annoying pop-punk group, with the same old drum beats and guitar riffs. Not to mention Jesse Lacey sounded like a pussy. Gee, suddenly, as screamo begins to rise, they seem to be changing their style. Does anybody else see a pattern here?

so That's it's. That's why I hate brand new.

I think the ship is supposed to represent her mouth. The rudder, being her tongue as it says, controls what the mouth says. So it's basically saying, "your tongue controls your mouth; whether you let yourself say something, or keep it inside."

Kevin, it's hardly a stupid metaphor, and it comes from the Bible.

Read James 2:1-12, specifically verses 4-5: "Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things."

It's ironic, if you read verse 10 too: "Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so." Check out your icon.

I do find the lyrics of "The Quiet Things No One Ever Knows" extremely obscure, though.

I know this comment is a little late. BUt I have to say that In your 4th reason you arent correct. They have songs on their first CD that sound like the stuff on the 2nd cd, Like the songs "The no seat belt song" and "Soco Amaretto Lime". And they are also one of the begining bands in the screamo movement. I know you hate them and that its not going to change I just wanted to help you get your facts start too.......Dashboard SUCK EVEN MORE THAN BRAND NEW SO PISS ON DASHBOARD. I have a million reason why they suck. I out

I think you are a sad, pathetic person who has no life and takes the time to make fun of an AMAZING band like Brand New, who is not even emo anyway. They're not gay, their lyrics are incredible (but are only understaood by smart intillectual ppl) , Jesse Lacey is sexier than youll ever be, and so what if they sound different than in 2001...they sound better. I hate you.

Congratulations mr. Psuedo Intellectual, you spelled understood wrong. Fucking retard. Do all "Intellectual People" cry for pety, self centered reasons? NO! People can be intellectual for different reasons. Such as I'm intellectual in a sense that I see through mindless zombies and I can state my opinion without being a pussy. I don't like Brand New, they aren't the greatest band in the world and their lyrics aren't THAT amazing. GET OVER IT!!
