Okay, the viruses on my computer are now out of control. There's popups everywhere, now somethings going through and underlining words on any html documents I look at, like 'get a job' or 'boyfriend'. Then something made it so that whenever I browse to a different site, it fades to it instead of just switching. Very annoying. I'm going to have to wipe everything and reinstall it.

And it turns out Counterstike isn't a multiplayer unless you hook up another xbox to it, so it looks like I paid 30 bucks for a 1 player shooter with no story line. But my dad said I could use my free trial of xbox live, so the downloads might make it more interesting.

I had all of those.. The programs I told you to download took care of all of it. Just make sure they're all updated.

I downloaded Spybot s&d, and it found a few programs that were lurking around, but the one I'm having porblems with is called VX2.Betterinternet, and I can't get rid of it. Every time I delete it's .dll file, it comes up after I reboot under another filename. I can't even delete the file unless I rename it so it becomes unduable, but every time it comes back.

Thanks for the help though, I've gotten rid of a lot of junk. It's just that this seemingly immortal program keeps downloading these mortal programs onto my machine.

"This is how I finally got it cleaned.

With regedit

Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows nt\current version\winlogon\notify\guardian

Right click on the guardian folder and select permissions
Advanced button
Uncheck inherit from parent permissions

You should be able to clean in off after that.

You will have to click remove on the first little window that comes up .
Then you will have to click apply, and then ok.

After that you will have to remove the offensive files.

The two files you probably want to delete are :
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\akmpvcno.cpy.dll
and
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\akmpvcno.dll

You may be able to delete akmpvcno.cpy.dll once you remove the permissions from 'guardian' I think. However, you will have to restart your machine to remove akmpvcno.dll

So restart, This worked for me, but my 'offensive' files were named afsldpc.cpy.dll and afsldpc.dll adaware only noticed afsldpc.cpy.dll .

I should also note that I am using windows XP home. I knew this worked right away when I restarted because it didn't sit there loading up my personal preferences FOREVER anymore.

good luck and i hope this works for you too.
(p.s. do an adaware scan after you are finished to see if you actually killed it, and to clean out all the gunk it leaves behind)

I removed permissions. I left the guardian 'folder' thinger there. It's turned into an empty folder, and I'm happy with it if it really wants to be there.

then i restarted and removed the 2 dll files in the system32 directory. It's 3 days later, and still no sign of vx2."

That doesn't quite work for me, I got Windows 2000. However, I just located the registry key with all the crap in it thats bugging me. I deleted the whole thing, so now I'll reboot and hope it doesn't come back (or that system restore is on, I don't know how to deactivate it).

Thanks though Andy. I hope this works!

Yeah I was going to mention system restore too.. For me it's right click on 'My Computer' and go to 'Properties' and then the option will be somewhere in one of those tabs.

Get AdAware. That's what we use. It works.

you can play counterstike on xbox live multiplayer. that'll be better than split screen with a couple people anyway

How do you get on xbox live without that confounded starter pack, though? I wish you could just say 'sign me up' instead doing all that code nonsense.
