CHARACTER WORK Relationships: What is their ideal date? The scenery, location, etc? Somewhere quiet, preferably outside. What is their ideal boyfriend/girlfriend? Somebody who is as manipulative as she is, but has similar goals. Someone to settle down with, buy some land, and then begin to annex some unused farmland surrounding her property. Eventually Dawn will have her own little fiefdom, and any magic-users who don't want to work with her are to be killed. Lovely little secret police composed of various wizards and sorcerers pulled from the poverty of the lower classes as children so that they'll be oh-so-grateful to their lady. When her landholdings have grown sufficiently to be called a town, she will have a suggestion urn in the middle of town so that people can anonymously voice complaints. These people will all have unfortunate accidents and/or disappear shortly afterward, but she may still consider their suggestions. What's their sexuality? hetero How fast do they think a relationship should go? Opinions on premarital sex? Whatever feels natural is fine, although you shouldn’t betray someone’s trust by using him/her for sex. As long as everyone is clear on what’s going on, all’s fair in love and war. What's their opinion on other sexualities? Meh. It happens. Childhood: What was their family life like? Brothers, sisters, etc.? Youngest of five. 2 brothers, one sister, one brother, then Dawn (in descending order). What was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to them? Walking in on her eldest brother and his lady friend. Oops. What was their worst nightmare? Being forgotten or left behind. Any odd birthmarks? Stories behind them? (Like when I was little, my mom used to say the dark mark on my arm was a dragon bite...) no. Any childhood sweethearts? Nah. None of them were worth her time. Are they ticklish? (If so, was it ruthlessly exploited?) Yes. No, people stopped when she would accidentally cast spells while laughing. When she got better control of her powers, this stopped, but they don't need to know that. Stuff I can't figure goes anywhere else: Would they sacrifice themselves for loved ones? People they barely know? A good cause? Yes, but it’s kind of hard for anyone to qualify as a ‘loved one’ to Dawn. No. Define ‘good cause,’ although... No. She really wouldn't. What would their D&D alignment be? (Chaotic Good, Lawful Evil, etc...) Lawful evil. What's their favorite outfit and accessories? She wears a lot of black, but her ability to carry herself well means that she doesn’t look all angsty. She just looks good in black, so she wears it. She does tend to wear dark green lingerie under her clothes however. Any special keepsakes they have? Nah. Any physical gestures/movements/body language they use when happy? Sad? Worried? Angry? Frustrated? She often will close her eyes for a moment to compose herself if someone really pisses her off. Her face mainly just goes blank during any excess of emotion, so if Dawn exhibits apparent distress, she’s just fucking with you. Can they speak foreign languages? What languages? To what extent? How/why did they learn this? She barely sees fit to talk to people in her own language. Why the hell does she want to go out of her way talking to all sorts of random people? Mention what kind of pranks the person likes to pull? Little note trails (one note has a clue as to where the next lies, and so on until you find something cool) that go on for a really long time and end with something stupid or even harmful. Brain Dominance: Left-brain. Lefty, righty or ambi: Righty. Personality type (often taking quizzes as your character will help here): Introverted or Extroverted: Introverted. Look before they leap, or leap before they look: Look. Head over heart, or heart over head: Head. Unknown Armies has a system of Stimuli for each character, which is quite useful for character-building purposes in general. The three stimuli: Rage. This is what makes your character abandon all logical thought in favor of sheer, carnal, utter animosity. People who try to dominate her or make her do anything against her will. Also, people who harm animals out of cruelty really piss her off, probably because for so long Malachi was all she had. These people tend to have unfortunate accidents. Fear. This stimulus will cause your character to try to find a way to escape, except in extreme cases, where the character will curl up into a ball and quiver. The idea of being helpless is horrifying to Dawn. She needs to have the upper hand in any situation, even if she’s only exhibiting a very small influence. If events start to spin out of control beyond her ability to right them, she panics. Noble. This is often the hardest one to pin down. When a character's Noble stimulus is triggered, the character will behave in a completely altruistic sense, going the extra distance for others' benefit with relation to the stimulus itself. Librarians might have a soft spot for illiterate folk who want to learn; brawler characters might act nobly if they see a woman being harassed or victimized; planetary destroyers might take students under their wings, to hopefully take over when they are dead. For someone who trusts her (which she couldn’t even begin to understand), she will act almost in a ‘moral’ fashion. She’s not a trustworthy person because she doesn’t believe people are inherently honest. That’s why children lie. If someone really places her on a pedestal, it exerts a certain amount of pressure on her to live up to that. She may not like it, but she won’t let them down. Frustration: see journal entry on frustration in black notebook She gets frustrated when people around her don’t behave ‘as they should.’ Quizzes as Dawn Valerian: What Type of Villain are You? mutedfaith.com. How evil are you? I don’t know how accurate this is. The questions are weird. Eating beef or eating fish at one point made the difference between good and evil. Whatever. |
