"If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."

Hemingway had a very pessimistic view of the world. I'm not surprised he shot himself.

I just don't see why. Why have such a negative outlook on everything?

I'm inclined to agree with him, actually.
The fun thing about pessimism is when you can manage to believe in the best but always expect the worst. That's my form of it, at least.

Yeah, I tend to do that too.

But after awhile, it fucking sucks.

I think it's because being positive about what's right in the world wouldn't fix as much as being negative about what's wrong in the world would.

Hemingway didn't fix anything. He wrote books and short stories.

And shot himself in the head.

He didn't fix anything.

No, it's okay. He's just so frustrating. I wish I could go back in time and shake him.

Because the world is fundementally wrong, that's why. You can't win but you might as well try on the off chance you're wrong.
