Subject: Throw down some critique |

Keep it in the Yellow Liz Artecki On any given day there are over ten cars parked illegally in the student parking lot at Cedar Springs High School. There are more than enough parking spaces for the car of students, yet it seems that many students are just too impatient to find one of them. Generally people would just ignore these illegal parkers but lately they have become extremely inconvenient for every other legally parked student. First of all there is one row that goes opposite of all the rest, and when trying to back out of that row many times a driver has to pull out and readjust. Not because they are bad drivers but because the car that is parked illegally in the row behind them is too close and it is hard to back out without hitting it. Another growing issue is the handicapped parking spaces. There are many able-bodied students parking in the spaces every day. Have these students lost all respect for those less fortunate or are they really that lazy? The biggest inconvenience can be seen when exiting the parking lot. When a driver pulls to the end of the row they check both ways to see if anything is coming. Because of the growing number of illegally parked cars there is no view. A person cannot see if anything is coming, so they have to pull blindly out into the intersection. This problem seems to grow more every day and it is really just an accident waiting to happen. The question is not about the illegal drivers. It has become apparents that they are just inconsiderate and probably won't be changing their ways any time soon. Maybe if other students hassled them about their illegal ways they would stop. Maybe if our administration would crack down on this we wouldn't have these problems. They could issue tickets every day to those students or they could revoke their driving privileges. As a last resort for these stubborn drivers maybe we could have the police come and tow away their cars. Just because this is a school parking lot does not mean that all laws are void. The sad fact here is that people need to grow up. If a student is not mature enough to park in between the yellow lines then maybe they shouldn’t be driving at all. |

valoth | 04-24-05 8:50pm Our tickets are $5 so they just get ripped up. They need to fix that. Oh wait, they tried to...but failed. I give you the half ass plan of "car jail" |
Tabletop | 04-25-05 3:29pm they should just give real parking tickets. If you park in the staff section, you get your car towed. If you park in handicapped, you get a $5 fine. How does that make sense? |
