What I usually do is buy another tranny, referb the seals and swap them out. Then you can referb the one you yanked out for when the one you installed goes out, which usually takes about a year.

swap it out of the other rabbit.

the transmission in the old rabbit isn't any good either.

and the tranny in the gti didn't go out. the drive flange seal came... unsealed, and the fluid leaked into the inner cv boot. the boot ripped, and now it's sporting a pretty nasty leak. so, i have to replace the seal and the drive axle.

but without a garage, limited cashflow, few tools, and a moderately full schedule, this is going to be difficult.

hopefully i'll be able to work on it in this guys garage. his name is karl. he has tools too.

we'll see, i guess.
