Subject: skiving off of homework...

yeah. so i got the car all apart today. made some good progress. dad did an awesome job on the valve cover with the PCV hose. i think i'm going to run it to a separate breather tank, as soon as i can find a place to mount it. and i'll just put the old filter on the breather. i don't like running it straight to the intake for some reason.

but anyway. the timing belt is off. old valve cover is off. the cam is out. i have the wrong fucking lifters. and i guess the right ones are like $100 more than i had originally budgeted. marvelous. so i don't know what i'm supposed to do about that. and i managed to slice my thumb wide open while i was rerouting some fuel lines. fan-fuck-tastic.

honestly, it's been a good night. there was a lot of great progress. and like i said, dad did an awesome job with the PCV stuff. but my thumb is fubar, the lifters still need to be addressed, and i didn't do squat on my homework.

maybe next time. but all in all, a good night.

Honestly, have you ever used or heard of "skiving" before harry potter? I haven't.

no, but i like it. i've heard it since... seems to be british slang. that's just where i heard it "first".

yeah I've heard and used that word before and I am oblivious to harry potter, it can go to hell for all I care

yeah, I know it's a word outside of harry potter, I just knew he read it, and wondered.

are you getting a new cam too?
just wondering.

if you can find a better cam, and you already have yours out, why not put a lumpier one in?

there's already like a 280º cam in there. plenty lumpy for me.

but i'm replacing the lifters, 'cause they're loud as fuck.

i'll have to show you when i'm all done. it's gonna look flippin' sweet.

i dont know about 4cylinders but with a v8 a 280* cam is pretty lumpy :D

thats actually what i'm running in my small block is a comp 280h

Re: Re: Re:, 10-15-05 2:05pm

yeah. the problem is, with only 4 cylinders, 280 degrees is almost too long. it doesn't like to do this little thing called idle. something to do with vacuum generation... i'm trying to smooth things out and get the mixture pegged.

no such luck so far. i think there's still a vacuum leak in the intake somewheres. and i'm going to put the pcv hose on a separate breather tank. maybe that'll do something? we'll see.

Re: Re: Re: Re:, 10-23-05 2:57am

the thing with a higher duration is it does kill your vaccume and make s the idle sound really cool with a v8

you'll have a rough idle with your car, i dont know if there is any way around that without messing with the timing. if you did fix it with the timing, your timing would be off in the upper RPM's where the car makes its power.

Let it idle rough...
