Subject: something about anarchism and mosh pits...
I wrote this after going to an Offbeats show with Katie and Kyle. So there's your context.

Mosh pits amaze me. They are an example of anarchy in it's purest, most beautiful form. Arms flail, bodies fly, legs dance and stumble across the room. It's incredible how something that looks so frightening, so violent, is a sign of of solidarity and friendship. Sure, people get bruised, elbows land in eyeballs sometimes and people fall but there is always someone to pick you up and shove you back in the pit. It was just a big bowl of anarchy. Anarchy! What a concept! Here I was in this tiny hole in the wall joint, with a loud band blowing the lid off and people dancing, screaming, thrashing and twisting violently every which way whenever they wanted. No inhibitions. And it worked beautifully. It seemed like the outside world had no idea what we were doing, what we had discovered. It was like we were in on some wonderful secret. And I had an epiphany: if there were no authorities, if we were left to our own devices and weren't forced into this bullshit lifestyle they have us living, adopting their ideas and values, we'd be just fine. Think of it: if we had that kind of freedom all the time, in all aspects of our lives. Think of all we could accomplish. With the freedom and abandon in the mosh pit comes joy and exhilaration. It seems those are in short supply today. But if we could somehow spread these ideas to the masses, or least or non-moshing cohorts, we'd have good start. Hell, sooner or later we'd have generation of dreamers and revolutionaries. And then nothing could stop us. No, not even George W....

and now I'm starting to ramble. I'll maybe add to this if I can collect my thoughts enough....

My thoughts too; but also, what strikes me most is the soldarity exhibited. If one person falls, those nearby reach down to pick him or her up. Sometimes everyone even stops to help the person; it's awesome.

Kindof ironic though, since 'mosh' stands for "march of skinheads", so I guess it was started by fascists.

you have to be careful with your definition of skinhead.
skinhead does not necessarily mean fascist.

True... I guess I've just been viewing them unfavorably lately, after one of them like spit on my friend at a show, and were all threatening to beat everyone up at this last one I went to.
