I didn't write that, it's a song.
I can't be sure why he wrote it, but I'd imagine it's about shedding inhibitions. He sees himself as a part of something revolutionary that only a few people believe in completely (as bullets lance the bravest lungs) but out of a desire to coexist with the rest of humanity, the rest of the group holds their tongue, even though they know the better path.
Letting the flames rise and devour him is, in my mind, a combination of giving way to his rage and simultaneously "charging the guns", as it were.
Obviously I wrote it because I can relate at some level.
