She realized that now she was outside. She was not only outside, but she was running down the street, her bare feet pounding against the pavement. The rain surrounded her, encasing her, making her lose herself in its persistent flow downward. With every step she took, she felt the weight of every rain drop increase until every pace seemed to be further dragging her downward. She continued her pace however, her speed never waned, and she now found herself standing in front of his doorway.
The rain seemed less important now as she lost herself searching her own mind for the reason of her rash decision to roam the street at such a late hour. She suddenly became aware of the darkness around her and felt a touch of fear worm its way into her thoughts. The rain was soaking her. Her clothes were now useless, and offered no protection. Her gaze fell onto the door she was standing before. There were no lights on, nor was there a car parked outside behind her.
She knew she shouldn't be here, this was not her place. Then again, truth be told, she had no place. Her hand now reached out toward the door, as her hand shook as if she was suddenly struck with a powerful and toxic fever. Her vision faded as her hand touched the old wood and wrenched her fingers away from the door as though they were on a hot stove. She now covered her eyes as she swooned and found herself on her knees. Cries broke free from her restraint as lightening now flashed above her. She looked up, watching the lightening cause violet light to fill the sky. For several moments, she stayed that way, on her knees searching the heavens for some answer only she could see. As she watched the rain come down to her, she held out her fingertips and caught the drops on her hand.
She found her footing and stood once again, wiping the streams of water away from her dark jaded eyes. Her hand once again found itself on his door, but this time she did not resist, she brought it against the door with force she no long knew she possessed. She drew back two steps and waited, only letting herself think of the steady stream of rain on her.
The door opened, letting a soft light flood around her feet. She did not look up, only looked down and waited. He stepped out into the rain and stood in front of her, silence prevailed and neither said a word. After several minutes of silence that were like agony to her, she looked up, the rain on her face now being joined with tears and said the words she has longed to say. Her eyes captured his, relentlessly staring and not letting him drop his own, even though her tears were now outnumbering the streams of rain. He was silent, his eyes filled with something she could not understand and she became certain that she was alone. She turned away from him and ran into the rain, losing herself, not screaming but letting the thunder do it for her. She ran down the darkened street past the identical rows of houses until she felt a hand seize her arm. She twisted around and faced him once again and saw his own tears now dripping down his face. He brushed back her wet curling hair from her upturned face and traced her features slowly. He softly whispered the words that she has longed form him to say for so long. She felt her defense slowly slip away against the current and lost herself in his arms. She locked her healing arms that were once scarred with his broken promises around his neck. She now believed once more in the wishes she wished so long ago. She closed her eyes and cried in thanks, not to him, but to the hidden stars of the storm, for she knew that the clouds would now blow over, revealing their brilliance once more.
