Not bad for a friday night. I was going to go to a soup kitchen with my RA and whoever else from my floor...BUT when it was time to leave, I couldn't find him. So I stayed here, slept, and went to a friday afternoon yoga with megan. That was definitely a work out. It didn't feel like one, but I'll probably be soar in the morning. We all went to dinner at 6:00 and me and sara studied in jessica's room until theresa and keith came over..at that point it was useless. We just fooled around online, looking at funny videos and watching music videos. Lindsay Lohan is EXTREMELY hott in her video! Around 10:00, we headed to Midnight Madness, the pep rally for Loyola's basketball teams. The first 1,000 people got free t-shirts, so when they opened the doors it was crazy. I got a shirt though, so I'm happy. I even played "knockout" otherwise known to me and everyone back in muskegon as Lightening! We left around midnight. Theresa and Keith were gonna go look for "somewhere to drink." I guess I'm glad that they asked me if I wanted to come, but this weekend would just be bad for me to even be in a situation like that. Nevertheless, Sara was going and wanted me to be her "buddy" so she could leave when she wanted to (sara doesn't drink), and Keith reassured me that they weren't going to be staying late, so I went with them. As it turns out (no surprise here) they never found a party. At point, Tex went up to this apartment and knocked on the door. When the girl came out he asked "excuse, is anyone drinking here?" Haha. We all cracked up laughing. I seriously want a video camera to record drunk people moments. Anyways, since they didn't find anything, sara and I headed back to Creighton. We chilled in jessica's room. Later on, Theresa and Keith came back after not finding anything. We just chilled, reminiced on childhood cartoons, scary movies, and watched trailors for upcoming movies. White Noise looks really good. But if I hype it up, I know I'll be disappointed. At 1:58, Keith and I booked it out of jessica's room, down the elevator, and through the first story hallway so we could get out before 2:00am to avoid the stupid charges. We made it, and on our way back to simpson, I saw Kendall, so I chilled with her for a while. I came back to her room for a bit. Kendall's pretty cool. Her friend from UIC offered me a swig of his liquor, but Kendall told him that I don't drink. She said that I should drink with her and her posse because they won't pressure me to drink and they don't do stupid things when they are drunk. Then she offered me some Vodka and Red Bull. It tasted like cherry cough syrup, but at least it was drinkable. Maybe sometime when I don't have a busy weekend (tomorrow I have check-in for open house and I have a big honors paper to do) I'll take her up on her offer to "introduce me." She said she used to be like me, which is pretty cool. We'll see. I don't want to become a drunk, nor do I think I will be. Well, I better get some sleep.

I smell like smoke, but I don't care. It's raining outside. This is the perfect time of year. I saw Death Cab for Cutie with my roomate, Matt, and Kendall (brow bud) and Elise from the 5th floor. It was a pretty awesome show. The Riviera is this really sweet old theater, and even though we were right up front, the show would've been good from anywhere. I think the show would've been a little better if I was more familiar with death cab, but it was good as it was. I was rocking out nonetheless. The opening band, Trevor Morisson, was frickin' great! There was this one chic in the band who was playing keyboard and dancing. She was the best. The great thing about the band is that they were all a little bit nerdy and together that made them cool. They also did a terrific cover of that one song "I wanna li-li-li-lick you from your hhhead to your toes..." Haha, that was hilarious. We got back around 10:30. I went to the library to do some major reading, but unsuprisingly, I can't concentrate. I think I'll go to bed sooon. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KENESHA!

Oh, wow. So today I completed my training as a student ambassador. I was told that you give a tour guide a tour. Yes, well I also gave a REAL tour, with real prospective students. All-in-all, there were eleven people in my entourage (a few students, a few parents). Tom, a sophomore from none other than Michigan was the "real" tour guide. He said I did a good job, even though I was a little sketchy with details and forgot a few things (like Fordham Hall and the new sophomore dorms). But now I'm a real tour guide, so it's all good. I don't know why, but all day I've been suffering from exhaustion. I was so tired, yet I dragged myself to rehersal. That's next week...I definitely gotta learn my stories. I had to miss dinner, but I got a great chicken burrito from rambler at 10:00pm. I was completely exhausted until about 10 minutes ago...now I'm going to be wired all night. Oh no.

I'm not good with this getting my homework done thing. I meant to go to the library at 9:00pm, but it was closed, and one thing led to another, and now it's almost 1:00am and I still have fifty pages of Cicero to read. I guess if I don't finish it, no big deal...but our second paper is due next monday and the next few weeks are pretty busy for me. Instead of homework earlier, I woke up, met up with Keith at lunch, and then rode down to the Unique Thirft store where I got three t-shirts, a bracelet, and a 50s-60s compilation record for an amazing $3.50. Is that sweet or what? Then I picked up my pictures from walgreens. I don't know what I was thinking. Some of the pictures are of my hotel room when I came for orientation. Woopee. At least I got a good one of campus and one with a few of my friends here. The one with "everyone" in it, though, didn't turn out. Well, I best be off to bed/study. I did something stupid today and now i have to give my tour tomorrow at 3:00pm even though I'm not prepared, which means no nap time for me tomorrow. And Joslyn..hope everything works out with the car situation.

Home Sweet Home
That is not Muskegon. Muskegon is a place. A crappy place. A ghetto town. The only thing in Muskegon is my friends, but without them, Muskegon is nothing. I don't want to seem stuck up, but I've gotten use to the big city life, and I love it. I left ske town at about 5:00am this morning (chi time) and didn't get back to Loyola until almost noon. But after I got in, I put my stuff down, took a shower, and headed out. I opened a checking account with BankOne. The woman who set up my account was also from Michigan. She was nice but spent 10 minutes clarifying the concept of "overdraw protection," even though I clearly knew what it meant. Besides that, she was nice. I was in a bit of hurry though. As soon as I dropped my bank information off at the room, I headed to the "el" to go to the Chicago Historical Society's exhibit called Teen Life, exploring the lives of teenagers throughout the 20th century. Interesting stuff. I've never been there before, but I managed to find the place, even though I left my map back at the room. That could've been useful, but since I didn't have it, I just kept walking, seeing what was on the next block, and the next block, and the next block, until finally I had walked all the way from Clark/Division through Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods to Addision. That's a pretty long way. But it was worth exploring. Last night I didn't do much of anything and went to bed with a headache. Originally I wanted to have a bonfire on the beach for ol' times sake, but seeing as we just had twigs for firewood, we decided to stay at my house and watch a movie, "we" being Josie and Kenesha and later Nick, Melissa, and Schotts. We didn't watch a movie though. We spent the night listening to people's ringtones. Saturday night was much better, seeing as I went to my sister's marching band competition and got to see a lot of familar faces, including Mrs. McConnel and Mrs. Wilson. Later that night, Andre and I rode up to White Cloud to go bowling and sing kareoke with Amanda, Jami, and Jill, but unfortuneately, Andre cut out early. He didn't even get to see me and Jami murder "Like a Virgin." My sleeping schedule is completely out of wack. I should try to get some sleep...

Wow. It feels so strange to be home. This is a foreign environment to me. Since I've been gone, my mom's gotten a job, we got a new car, and the bathtub has been reglazed. It's like a different world. After living in chicago, though, I can honestly say that muskegon sucks. I mean, it has the beach and all my friends...but the city itself doesn't compare to chicago at all. Obviously, right? It's ghetto town. Well, I'm gonna go get some sleep. The train ride wasn't bad and melissa, nick, andre, and jami came over tonight to celebrate my birthday/being home.

Due to the heat wave, I couldn't sleep in my room last night and ended up sleeping in the lounge. I wish I could open my window but we have huge-ass spiders waiting to lay their eggs in our brains. I did alright on my Italian midterm. I was dead all day. I still have Aristotle to read, but I think I might just go to bed.

Ahh! I'm stressed out and I'm about to have heat stroke. They turned off the frickin a/c to the whole building and now it's an inferno in here! I walked into my room after writing my english mid term paper at the library (explains the stress level) and was hit was a heat wave. The stress is only going to rise as I stay up trying to study Italian...cramming is more like it. After tomorrow, everything will be golden. I just better score well on my English and Italian midterms. I'm excited that I get to come home in 2 days. I get to sleep in my own bed, my own room, go places I'm familar with, buy stuff I need, possibly go to a movie, and see a lot of my friends...and pick up all my coats! It might be hot in my room, but it's freezing outside! The funniest thing happened tonight on the way back from the library. Well, first I went to CFSU to get some juice. EVERYONE was hanging out there! I saw Megan and Keith and walked with them for a little bit. When we were walking down the "hallway," this girl passed us and audibly FARTED. We died laughing. I have to hold back my laughter even now in reminecense. Ahh, good times. Oh, and FYI, 100% of the student population breaks wind...random fact I was taught tonight.

Nothing bad happenend today, but I feel iritated for some reason. Italian didn't help because she made us feel inferior yet again. I had lunch and dinner with my friends, but there wasn't much to talk about. My english class sucks. It's just so boring. And the teacher is so subjective. At least I didn't have to go to my freshman seminar today. I got to go to a speech by John Schuster instead called "Answering the call to the marketplace." I thought he'd speak more on why the marketplace needs us, but instead he spoke of finding our own call in life. If we go to school and get an education and develop our skills as a businessman or whatever, those skills are useless if we don't put them toward a meaningful end. The thing I'm struggling with, besides whether or not marketing is right for me, is if I can participate in business in a just way, especially when it seems that so many business are unjust. Walmart, for example. They give their customer's a great bargain, but they treat their employees like shit. I don't know. Basically, I have to look within myself and go out a whim to find my call and answer it.

A Boring Monday
I am proud to say that I did not take a nap today...but I did have some coffee at 8:00pm - I hope I can fall asleep! All my homework for tomorrow is done. I feel like I will actually have time to study/prepare for my midterms. This evening I went to STP where I read only one monologue over and over with different direction each time. I think I got something that will work. After dinner I headed over to CFSU to check out some unnamed band perform, sponsored by capture. Which reminds me...My roomate bought me a Death Cab for Cutie ticket today (for some reason ticket master doesn't work on my computer!), so I have to pay him back a whopping $28. Plus on thursday I might check out some band for $10. And I still owe Sara $10 for dinner. And I still gotta get tickets for Further Seems Forever. Man. My debt is adding up. I gotta remember this week to inquire about a job at the library.

Not much happened today. I brought the woopee cushion to brunch and dinner. Sara D cracks up every time. All throughout brunch we were trying to get people to hear it and respond..but nope, not many did. However, as we were putting our trays away, I let it rip and was like "Sara, how could you?" And this girl at the nearby table started laughing to herself. Good times. The expression of some people is priceless. Later this evening I was retrained as a Eucharistic Minister and distributed the Body during mass. I hope this week isn't too difficult. I have my english and italian midterms. I also have to read Aristole's On the Soul, which is really deep and hard to get through. I've taken like 3 naps today and I'm still tired! Man, my sleeping schedule is out of wack. Maybe I can fix it over fall break. I'll be home in five days...

saturday in chi town
I feel content. I like it here. Tonight by the lake reminded me so much of high school football games this time a year ago. After not getting much sleep, I woke up early this morning to go on the Rogers Park Clean-up. I feel like a better human just for going on it and picking up trash. I tried to take a nap afterwards, but Megan called because we had planned on going to this liberal coffee shop a few blocks away called Heartland Cafe. Interesting place. I had the best mexican hot chocolate ever. Then Megan and I walked through this alley arts & crafts sale on our way back. Megan's a very nice person. I am hoping she'll be a good influence on me. After I got back and actually took a real nap, it was time to go to dinner. Sara, Megan, Jessica, Keith, and I went to Beco di Beppo's for a great Italian family-style experience. Awesome food. It was off of Belmont on the red line, which seems like a pretty cool, trendy part of town. I'm still wandering where chicago night life is though! But tonight wasn't bad by any means. In fact, it rocked. When we got back on campus we checked to see if Loyolaccapella was still singing, and they were. Man are they amazing. Unforutneately, we had to cut out early because SNL starts at 10:35 here - strange, huh? - but that was fun too. Actually, SNL isn't the same now that Molly Shannon, Will Farrell, even Jimmy Fallon and all the others aren't there. But there was this one hillarious skit that took place in whatever famous mall is in Schaumberg, IL (half my friends here are from there so it was strange) where the escalator stopped working and people were freaking out because they didn't how they would get "out." People decided to call it an early night, so I walked Megan home and on the way back I bumped into Sara D. She was coming back from the TKE formal. We spent about 30 minutes cracking up with the woopee cushion. Whenever people would come by I'd be like "Ugh, Sara, my stomach..I don't htink I should have eaten that [fart]." Haha, good times. Then I waited around for a bit, watched some Jay & Silent Bob in the lounge, and checked in some guys for the girl from Kzoo. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. It's my homework day. Plus play practice. Plus church training.
