-Questions I would like to ask the seriously religious.
-What if the Bible is wrong?
-Making God a hypocrite.
EDIT: I love how I have nothing better to do with my time than post things that I didn't write. Uh, I'm not tired at all and I still have homework to do, so chances are I'll be awake for a while. If you're lucky, you'll get a real update. Exciting, isn't it?
PS: I love Elliott Smith. |

Porcelain | Hmm, 03-08-04 1:07pm Have you seen "The Passion Of Christ?" They pass out flyers in front of the theatre room that provide you with questions about god and stuff.
I, personally, don't believe in god (and if he's real, I'll probably go to hell for saying this), but I think it's healthy to question our religions. If we didn't, we'd just be naive little bitches. *Sigh*
Nice reference links.

sparkythefool | Re: Hmm, 03-08-04 9:56pm I haven't seen it yet, but I plan on going sometime. My church (that I really don't belong to anymore, but don't tell my parents that) was going one night, but I opted not to go..they said the pastors would be available after the movie for discussion. Uh, don't care, thanks.
I'm with you on the God thing..I don't know if you've ever read my God rant (it was a while back), but I basically explained where I stood on religion in that. I've just had it shoved in my face for my entire life, and I don't know if I ever truly believed in it..I just believed what other people told me.
But enough! Religion makes me angry, and then I start writing a lot..as I have just proved. Heh. I'll stop now.

UnlovedOne | 03-29-04 5:47am You raise a lot of valid points. One thing to remember is that there are many different kinds of Christian religions, and not all of them necessarily believe in the same things.
I am Catholic. Catholics are Christians. I have been taught that it is NOT the only religion. I have also learned that Catholics believe that even if you are not Catholic, you can go to heaven. I don’t believe that ALL Christians are hypocrites, although there are many who are. There are Catholic priests who have committed the worst sins you could possibly imagine, and there are churches who protected them. This does not mean all priests are like this, or all churches are like this. I have never been told to give money to church to be saved. About the Bible – some Christian religions take every word in the Bible literally. Catholics do not. For example, I believe in evolution, and my church does not condemn me for that, because I believe God plays a part in evolution. I was never taught that Jesus was born specifically in December. There is nowhere in the Bible that says he was born in December, and you’re right – it is probably celebrated the same time other pagan gods were celebrated. But the exchange of rings at a wedding is also a pagan tradition; it has just been Christianized.
I’ve never been taught that God would ever turn His back on me, even if I committed the worst sins. I believe God forgives you ALWAYS, as long as you want to be forgiven.
I don’t believe in abortion, but I also don’t believe in killing those in abortion clinics. That is not my place.
I’ve never been to other Christian churches. I like going to my church. I admit, sometimes it is boring, but the purpose of going to church is not for my entertainment. It’s for worshipping God. What’s an hour each week to do that?
I can go on and on about this, but that’s just a piece of my point of view. An interesting book to read is “Did Adam & Even Have Belly Buttons?” It answers questions about the Catholic faith (many questions similar to yours), and it also talks about how it is different from other Christian religions.
Whether or not you choose to believe in God is of course your decision, but if it is your church that turned you away from God maybe you can find one more suitable for you.
Chris
