Subject: WARNING: VASTLY OPINIONATED POLITICAL ENTRY AHEAD! PROCEED WITH CAUTION! |
I'm not one to talk about religion or politics, even in casual conversation, so when I have an entry like this, you know it's something I feel strongly about. I wish I could vote this year. I turn 18 at the end of January, missing the election by three months. (Or two, depending on how you count things.) I don't feel too frustrated when I compare myself to Ben. His birthday is the 8th of November, six days after the election. I guess my point is that I was tolerant of Bush's reign of stupidity and My mom is one to strongly support and tell her views so she began to tell me about all of her conspiracy theories. At first, I didn't believe a word but as everything she predicted when Bush was elected came true... And the things that drive me now to make this entry are trivial compared to most points you will probably shove in my face but these are the things that have got me mad. These are the things that have got me wanting and craving to be able to vote. Point one: the war in Iraq. Really, that's all I'm going to say on the subject. I don't want to offend people and I don't want to start some huge discussion. Point two: the revelation that the Pentagon "inadvertently destroyed" the papers noting Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard. I'm no conspiracy theorist and I'm sorry but it seems all too convenient that all of a sudden (before the election) the papers talking about where the president (who is running for re-election) was during his service in the military (during which he deserted) are "inadvertently destroyed". Hm. That just doesn't make sense to me. Point three: talk of delaying the election because of possible terrorist attack. Are you fucking kidding me!? The president of the United States (running for re-election) thinks there is going to be (conveniently) a terrorist attack disrupting our "democratic process". Don't make me puke my guts out, please! That's too much. I can't understand what politicians expect the American people to believe! Injustice and liars make me mad. Politicians make me mad. I could never do that. So now you all can yell at me and tell me how I'm wrong and blah de blah. I don't like making entries like this but I thought that hey, it's my journal, it's there for expressing my opinions. Plus I wanted to rile people up. I think I'll cry if Bush gets re-elected. On a happy non-political note: my brother is playing Tales of Symphonia and he has to sneak through this group of people. He was so unsuccessful, he wouldn't survive a minute playing MGS. I love you all. |

loserxdork | 07-23-04 4:07pm i hate bush & i want him out of office but do i want kerry? NO! it sucks that im only turning 16 in november so i have to wait another what, for years? to get my fucking vote on. UGH this life sucks majorly :-/ |
Shinigami | Re:, 07-23-04 5:13pm Actually, if you look at all the issues, Kerry is the best person for the job. Well, at least for this election. There wouldn't be another person that I'd vote for. Well, except for maybe Nick Lidstrom, but he's Canadian, so he can't even run. ;_; |
Shinigami | Re: Re:, 07-23-04 5:21pm I'm sorry, I take that back. I wouldn't vote for Nick, I would vote for Ralph Nader but he can't run because the writers of the constitution only believed that it should be a two party system, and therefore made it really hard to get you to even be able to run for president if you're not Republican or Democrat. Poor guy, just wants to make this country a better place but he can't even try to do that because our FOUNDERS didn't think that more than two people would be eligable enough for the position of president. How stupid. |
jessa_lynne | Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 12:44am parties didn't exsist in our form of government when the consitution was formed. they weren't intended to exsist. at the time, this country was small enough that it was possible to run as an individual and to get an extremely strong following. as time went on, and as the american people became less interested in their government and more geographically spread out, parties were formed. but it's all going to be okay, because once a third party candiate gets a five percent popular vote in a presidential election, then that party will get the same amount of governmental funding as the two big parties get. but let's just hope that nadar doesn't get that amount of support this year; i don't think anyone wants a repeat of the last election.
Shinigami | Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 3:23am And what about the intention of the constitution writers? They only wanted a two party system, and made many laws that prevent others from even getting on the ballot. True, they do have the chance to get on it, but how can they get their ideas and plans for the future out when it's so damn hard to get media and people to support you when you have the donkeys and elephants taking all the sponsors and time? Why is it so damn hard to have real American people wanting what's better for American when the government itself is intent on keeping you from doing it? |
Jessa_Lynne | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 4:03am no, seriously, there is no mention of parties in the constitution. it was not set up for that. i'm not negating the idea that a two party system is not good, i'm smiply pointing out that the constitution and the founding fathers had no foresight that the system would morph into that. they didn't want a two party system. they didn't even have parties at all. there were no such thing at the time. that's all i'm saying. |
Tabletop | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 3:07pm George Washington hated political parties. |
engel | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-26-04 2:53am yes he did

pamela | 07-23-04 4:58pm wow...i had this whole thing typed out, and i went to enter it, and i entered the wrong password, and it was gone. shit. oh well....maybe i'll post again later if i see any other opinions that are well informed and wrong. i know it's wrong to say opinions are wrong, but i can't find another word. |
Angel_Bob | Re:, 07-23-04 9:59pm We're not wrong, we just have different views. |
Shinigami | 07-23-04 5:25pm Papers from the Vietnam era in Bush's life is missing, while we all know Kerry served his time for his country, even if it was for nothing. Yes, he threw his metals at a junk yard, so what? People treated him like shit when he came back because he went somewhere he didn't want to go in the first place. It's called the draft. Damn thing. If they ever reinstate that Mat and I are running to Ireland. Anyone want to come?

PHIL-HIMSELF | Re: Re:, 07-23-04 5:50pm Being in the Military does not make you a better canidate. Clinton ran against George Bush who was a fighter pilot and against Bob Dole who was a WW2 hero.
PHIL-HIMSELF | Re: Re: Re:, 07-23-04 5:52pm yeah, I typed threat wrong |
PHIL-HIMSELF | Re:, 07-23-04 6:15pm It was just in the news today that new Military papers of George W. Bush have been found
pamela | Re: Re:, 07-23-04 6:28pm i like you. i like your political statement there, and i'll add to it.
pamela | Re: Re: Re:, 07-23-04 6:30pm and when i said i liked someone's comment, i meant that skife person. i liked skife's comment. |
Viper15 | Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-23-04 8:18pm All im going to say is that for the situations bush has been put into, he has made good decisions, we have had threats from iraq before, they would eventualy come again, so he did the right think in taking out the trash. sure bush sent us to war, it was inevitable. And i dont believe in kerry, he has the worse senate atendence rate in the history of the senate, and he voted againsed the lacy petermans act, ya know the one that helps PROTECT PREGNANT WOMEN, so between a person who is doing what well have to do anyway, and a person who likes to hurt pregnant women, ill take the person who does what needs to be done.
jessa_lynne | Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 12:48am the problem is that the war we are fighting is not about terrorism.
Tabletop | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 1:00am the lacy peterson act doesn't help protect pregnant women. Beating the shit out of pregnant women has always been illegal. The lacy peterson act would have just been the first step in congress attempting to overthrow roe vs. wade, it treated unborn fetuses as people under the law. I don't agree with roe vs. wade, but it isn't the job of congress to interfere with the supreme court. |
Tabletop | Re: Re:, 07-24-04 1:03am "get 3 purple harts [sic] in vietnam you have to be jumping in front of bullets."
jessa_lynne | Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 1:07am pure love, baby.
Tabletop | Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 1:13am you get a purple heart by not being a goddamn coward. He also has a silver star, and a bronze star with combat v. He's a goddamn war hero.
PHIL-HIMSELF | Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 2:01am My Grandpa was in Vietnam and he has a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star and many other medals, I guess you could consider him a war hero. He even says 3 Purple Hearts is diving for bullets, especially when you are stationed on a patrol boat. |
Tabletop | Re:, 07-24-04 3:10pm Kerry wasn't drafted, he enlisted.
PHIL-HIMSELF | Re: Re:, 07-24-04 6:58pm If you are drafted and you have a college degree you can take OTC( Officer training Course) after Basic Military Training.
skife | Re: Re: Re: Re:, 07-24-04 8:53pm in all rights kerry should be dead if he's not a "coward"
jessa_lynne | 07-24-04 12:51am i adore you for this entry.
engel | 07-26-04 3:04am i am so bad with politics it make me want to die just thinking about it. O well i will have to get into it at some point... i really just care about how future presidents will deal with the environment, and education. well there's more but those are the main ones. damnit, i hope my husband will be good with politics. (and be able to explain stuff to me) ::thick skulled me:: |
