the interesting parallel between being a cursed pirate and being clinically depressed:
Look! The moonlight shows us for what we really are. We are not among the living, and so we cannot die, but neither are we dead. For too long I've been parched with thirst and unable to quench it. Too long I've been starving to death and haven't died. I feel nothing; not the wind on my face nor the spray of the sea, nor the warmth of a woman's flesh.

~Captain Barbossa, from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

This song is just sexy...

I finally watched "But I'm a Cheerleader" today. FUNNY! All I could think of the entire time I was watching it was, "Who thought it was a bright idea to stick a bunch of gay people into one house and separate them into rooms with people of the same sex?"

Next on my list of "to-watch" is "Better Than Chocolate", "Perfect Blue" and "Irreversible".

Oh! Before I forget! Bill Clinton is coming to lecture at the university tomorrow at noon. He's here to celebrate AUD's tenth birthday and will be speaking in the auditorium. It's pretty cool, so I'm gonna go because it means I don't have to go to my 10 and 12 classes. Awesome.

If Man is Five, then the Devil is Six and if the Devil is Six then God is Seven.

You know what I want out of life?
To be able to tell someone, ten years from now, that comes up to me and says, "Weren't you the one who-?" And I would say, "Sorry, that was my twin sister. I'm a different person."

Random confession...
sometimes I feel like I'm the star of my own Truman Show. I feel like I'm always being watched by people as a form of entertainment.

I love this album.

In one universe, there is one cluster containing a galaxy called the Milkyway. In this galaxy, one solar system contains a planet called Earth. On this planet, there exists a continent called Asia which includes a region known as the Arabian Gulf. In this region is a country known as the United Arab Emirates. One of these emirates is called Dubai, and in it is the American University in Dubai. On the campus of this university is a six-story dorm building for females. On the fifth floor is room 1501, and inside this room, sits a girl writing this for you to read.

And if you don't get the whole point of this post, it's just a little too big for you.

This world is a beautiful place, full of beautiful people making beautiful things to smell, see, touch, taste and hear. I will argue with you from here to the end of time that for every bad thought you give me, I can give you three happy ones. This world cannot be improved. This world is perfect already. All we need to learn is how to use it properly, in the way that it deserves to be used. This world is more beautiful than anything I can imagine. I wish I could give the world rosy glasses so that when they wake up every morning, they could realize all this on their own and I wouldn't have to tell them how much this world loves them.

And nothing can change my mind.

Bush Abandonment Watch
Q: Would you welcome President Bush to Arizona to campaign for you?

A: I would welcome President Bush to Arizona to come with me along the border and see the problems that the ranchers and the law-abiding American citizens are having there. I would welcome President Bush to get tough on illegal immigration and understand that what happens on the border of the United States and Mexico is just as important as what's happening on the border of Syria and Iraq. ...

Q: Yeah, I was gonna point out that, of course, that wasn't even coming close to answering my question.

[Crosstalk.]

Now why don't you just answer my question. Would you like [President Bush] to come to Arizona and cut some campaign commercials for you and run them on all those TV stations in Phoenix and Tucson and Flagstaff and Prescott, and all?

A: In a word, no. Not at this time.

Q: That's being pretty honest, congressman!

Hey, YOU. Yeah, YOU.
Don't blow me off. If you've outgrown a friendship, that's not a crime. If you haven't the courage to do it right, that's just a disgrace to the memories we've created. And I've nothing more to say to YOU.

I'm a little upset.
I'd rather not talk about it. Only state it as a general fact and overall warning.

a slate.com article comparing Intelligent Design trial transcripts to a Monty Python sketch:
Monty Python:

Q. You say you have a new theory about the brontosaurus.
A. Can I just say here, Chris, for one moment, that I have a new theory about the brontosaurus.
Q. Exactly. Well, what is it? ¡
A: Oh, what is my theory?
Q: Yes.
A: Oh, what is my theory, that it is. Well, Chris, you may well ask me what is my theory.
Q: I am asking.
A: Good for you. My word, yes. Well, Chris, what is it that it is¡ªthis theory of mine. Well, this is what it is¡ªmy theory that I have, that is to say, which is mine, is mine.
Q: Yes, I know it's yours. What is it?
A: Where? Oh, what is my theory? This is it. My theory that belongs to me is as follows. This is how it goes. The next thing I'm going to say is my theory. Ready?
Q: Yes.
A: ¡ This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end; much, much thicker in the middle; and then thin again at the far end.

As though that explained anything. Which brings us to last week's cross-examination of Behe by Eric Rothschild, the lawyer opposing the school board in the Pennsylvania case.

Q: Please describe the mechanism that intelligent design proposes for how complex biological structures arose.
A: Well, the word "mechanism" can be used in many ways. ¡ When I was referring to intelligent design, I meant that we can perceive that in the process by which a complex biological structure arose, we can infer that intelligence was involved. ¡
Q: What is the mechanism that intelligent design proposes?
A: And I wonder, could¡ªam I permitted to know what I replied to your question the first time?
Q: I don't think I got a reply, so I'm asking you. You've made this claim here (reading): "Intelligent design theory focuses exclusively on the proposed mechanism of how complex biological structures arose." And I want to know, what is the mechanism that intelligent design proposes for how complex biological structures arose?
A: Again, it does not propose a mechanism in the sense of a step-by-step description of how those structures arose. But it can infer that in the mechanism, in the process by which these structures arose, an intelligent cause was involved.

Talk about tautology.

Homesick.

Really really homesick.

A part of me just knows that once I'm there I'll start thinking, "I have to get out of here! What the hell is this?! Oh man, they are all insane. I wanna go back to Dubai now."

But right now, I just want to be home.
