go sarah! :)
1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, liposuction and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without both a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans...
*Re-post this if you believe that laws against gay marriage are just plain stupid

I've been really anxious/worried the past 24 hours, and I don't know why.
I didn't sleep last night. I dreamt. It felt like a 7-hour long waking dream.

I don't usually make a fuss over celebrity deaths, but this one really jumped out at me...
Don Adams died yesterday. He was 82. For those of you who don't know, he play Maxwell Smart on Get Smart, one of my favorite comedies (nay, shows) on all time. He also did the voice to one of my favorite childhood cartons: Inspector Gadget. Hopefully, his memory will expedite the release of the show on DVD, perhaps the most overdue DVD on TV releases (IMHO) along side Ally McBeal. It's nice to hear that a remake is due with Steve Carell. It's a great casting choice, and it's kind of hard to screw up anything that he's in.

"The American potential for self-invention and the sadness that can come with that achievement"
While now, I can't get any research done if I don't find an advisor, can I? And my possibilities are swiftly being exhausted with a congenial response of "Sorry, but I can't take on any more students this semester."
I hate not being in the loop. I'm getting so close (to everything), but I'm so paranoid that a couple in-actions here and there and the bus is going to leave without me.
(edit 1:27pm)
Last week, Apple introduced the wafer-thin, flash-based iPod nano. What do people think?
- "Would companies stop making smaller, more powerful electronic goods? It's starting to freak me out."
- "I know I'll end up buying it anyway, but I do worry that this new iPod may be too small to effectively flaunt in public."
- "As a maker of custom iPod cases, sleeves, and belt clips, I'd just like to say: Goddammit! Slow the fuck down!"
- "Damn. I just got over not being to afford an old iPod."
- "As last, after years of false hopes and empty promises, I can finally shove 1,000 songs up my ass."
- "Excuse me? The first two floors of my house are still underwater? Hello? Has anyone seen my husband?"

Animation Domination highlights:
"I feel like a chicken already! I made an egg in my pants." - Ralph
"Sweet Lizzie McGuire!" - Milhouse
"This is Marge’s bra! I bought it for her BOOBS." - Homer
(lying in a bathtub full of oatmeal) "Mmm… Homer-Oats" - Homer
Not to mention, a gut-busting parody of the O.C. with a gun-wielding Snoopy holding up "Ryan" at an ATM.
"Does anybody have any Scope?" - Stewie
"I don't care what they said, Mulder, do not invite them back to our place. Not even to watch." - "Scully" American Dad

- "This is exactly why you can't touch the markers."
- "I'm not terminal. Merely pathetic."
- "Gruesome and low-tech. Kiss me, I love it."
- "Right. The parade of the small, bald, circus freaks. Sorry, I've got a thing."
Michelle, I don't know how that episode of House cheered you up on Tuesday. That was one of the most depressing episodes I've ever seen. Also, one of the best. And Elvis Costello covering Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," a song that was already a guilty pleasure of mine... O.C., your title for best source music on television is hereby stripped. Arrested Development and 24, you've got a run for your money on your hands.
Beautiful sounds filling my apartment tonight:
1) The sound of raindrops hitting the pavement.
2) The sound of the wind rustling the trees.
3) The sweet, soothing voice of Nick Cave.

god, i love this song...
I have not had such a productive day since I've gotten down here. I share my accomplishments:
- Went to the library and rented five CDs and the House of Sand and Fog... for free! Also got a Dave Eggers' book while I was there. Yum.
- Set up meetings to try and find an advisor in the program.
- Finished, faxed, and followed-up on my application for a $5000 ABA grant.
- Went grocery shopping and bought a shit ton of stuff. Finally found a frozen Chinese entree. Double yum. The wait staff wasn't completely deplorable as usual. The best part: as soon as I got in line to checkout (keep in mind double the number of open lines than usual, all empty or close to it) they started playing The Clash's "Lost in the Supermarket" on the radio. Made my day.
- Talked to both sets of parents. Good conversations with each.
- Found out my final exam schedule. I'm done at 1pm on Tuesday, December 21 (yeah Broncos, I know that's insanely late... oh well, I don't start class again until Jan. 26).
- Booked plane tickets for Christmas. I leave early evening on the 21st and head back January 10th to make for a nice long visit home. Yum = infinity.

I want to love everyone. I want to bring as much happiness to as many people as I can.

I felt at home and at peace in this city for the first time tonight. Comfortable in my skin and in my head. I could see the future tonight, saw the necessity of my life, all without ever leaving the present.
I don't want to give away the ending, but I know how it's going to end.
