to add to yesterday's rant...

why the hell are we celebrating some fucking merchant who accidentally stumbled upon some land and ignorantly thought it was full of riches, and only cared about it so that he could get some monetary gain out of the deal? what did he do for you or me? besides, of course, start up a cycle of social and civil inequality that's led to the genocide of almost all of the native people who lived here and the enslavement of countless others who were kidnapped from their native land and forced against their will to labor for rich white bastards?

why don't we celebrate a real hero instead? where is harriet tubman day? what in the hell is wrong with this country? why the hell aren't more people fuming about it?

sheep, follow your leader.

Is it just me, or are Bush's committees starting to sound like Professor Umbridge's declarations from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?

You all probably don't know what those are, I must be the only dork who reads those books...just trust me on this one :)

columbus day? fuck columbus.

this is what columbus had to say about the native people he encountered when he "discovered" (and thank GOD for that... imagine what the poor brutes of the americas would have done to this place if not for columbus!) what is now haiti:

"they would make fine servants... with fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want."

"[the arawaks] are so naive and so free with their possessions that no one who has not witnessed them would believe it. when you ask for something they have, they never say no. to the contrary, they offer to share with anyone..."

yeah, what a novel idea. fucking europeans.

gold-hungry columbus & co. ordered that all people aged 14 and older collect gold for them to bring back to spain. however, this task was impossible: there was no gold on the island except for dust found in streams. when the arawaks showed up without gold, the spaniards cut off their hands and let them bleed to death.

by 1650, none of the original arawaks or their descendents were left on haiti. they were all killed off either by murder, mutilation, or suicide.

and we have a national holiday for this man. what does that say about our country?

fuck columbus.

and fuck every other rich white man who has raped and murdered millions of people around the world in the name of capitalism.

so yesterday was homecoming here at albion college. the football team was kicking adrians ass, we were up 21-3 at the half. i left at that point because there were seriously 3 people around me that had gotten stung by bees, and the bees were still swarming around. i figured that we were going to win bc we were up so much and playing awesome, nope, look at the score online later, we lost by 3 in OT! crazy. just like the msu/u of m game.....which sucked by the way. damn you hart for being back. ha. so then one of my roomates (i have 3) went to a concert here with her mom, dad and boyfriend, so me and my other 2 roommates set up some beer pong in the living room. we play like speed beer pong so we can get it all cleaned up by the time the other one gets back (she doesnt like drinking, not as extreme as craignos though). so basically we all downed 4 beers in about a hour. it was fun though...i talked to danielle and hilary online, and amanda and shelby on the phone, and my mom actually ha. she didnt even say anything.

a message from moveon.org

Last week, congressional Republicans responded to hurricane Katrina by proposing to cut nearly a trillion dollars from vital national services, like health care for the poor and elderly, student loans, Amtrak, and eliminating the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (again!). [1] Republican leaders in Congress are now gauging the public’s response to see if they can get away with their plan. We need to show them the answer is no.

The cost of rebuilding the Gulf Coast, while huge, is far less than what President Bush has given away in tax cuts to just the wealthiest 1% [2]. National crises like Hurricanes Rita and Katrina are times for all Americans to stick together and put in our fair share.

So today we're launching an urgent petition to Congress to fully rebuild the Gulf Coast and pay for it by ending Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy, not by slashing vital services that Americans need. If we can gather a quarter million signatures this week, we can show that this destructive plan just won’t fly.

Please sign today.

this is the proposal made by the Republican Study Committee, if you want to see for yourself:
these people are insane.

shitty
so i was driving home thursday bc my classes were cancelled on friday and i had a dr apt friday too. so im just past ypsi and all the sudden my engin is reving and my spedometer is slowing going down, so of course in my head i am thinking, "awesome". so i coast off 94 at the next exit.....metro airport, which makes me think "awesome" again. so i roll into a parkinglot which just happened to be a post office and call my mom. she comes and picks me up and we go home. the next morning her boss has one of his buddies go pick up my car with his tow truck and brings it back to the scs area. the guy in the shop calls my mom up and tells her that my car is basically dead, it woudlbe pointless to put any work into it because in the next month or so there are a few other things that are gonna crap out anyway. when im told this, once more "awesome" goes through the head...

so now i have to get a car, but i have no money and neither does my mom or grandma, so i have to get an auto loan, which means i will have to make car payments every month which means i will literally have like $20 to spend on having a life ie: anything that i want to do i cannot do. so im sorry to say that if you want to hang out with me, you will either have to come get me, or hang out in boring ass albion and do things that cost no money because i will have none.

on another note the lock-in was alright, it wasnt quite what i was expecting it to be, but that might also be because i was a little on the down side from the past events of the weekend and wasnt as energetic as i probably should have been.

you are lazy if you think discrimination and hate are natural, innate aspects of "human nature." you are lazy if you think there will always be rich people and there will always be poor people, and there's no way around it. you are lazy if you think right now is all that matters in the course of history, and past wrongdoings by your government are excusable because you weren't around when it happened. you are lazy if you don't want social justice for all people, whether you understand them or not. you are lazy if you think there is nothing you can do about anything. you are lazy and nothing else if you don't think change is possible.

change is imperative, my friends, and YOU are the ones in charge.
