That's not necessarily the end of the world, I've had three herniated disks so far in my life, and I get to look forward to having a new one every year or two for the rest of my life, rare form of degenerative disk disease that runs in my mother's family.

But honestly, even after those three, it's had no real impact on my quality of life, I can still lift just as much as I ever could, at this point I completely ignore the (relatively minor) chronic back pain, I can still run, jump, do whatever.

Yeah, it might take a while before you're back to 100%, but it's pretty unlikely that you'll end up being crippled for life by it.

Why didn't you get the surgery like everyone said you should?

Re: Re: Re: , 09-14-09 10:37pm

I really am not comfortable with anyone doing anything that close to my spine. I know the chances of something going wrong are low, but really, that isn't a risk i'm willing to take period. not ever walking again is a lot worse than those things...

.. and i haven't had a real noticable decrease in pain yet. and i honestly don't think i will. i've lost 30 pounds, i've been doing exercises for my back, and it still is unbearable without celebrex (which is fucking ridiculously expensive :( ) and with it, it's managable, but my quality of life is so low it isn't even funny. i can't lift anything more than 20 lbs and i hurt my back over a year ago. i'm just feeling really hopeless and i don't really think its ever going to get better because the things i've been doing aren't fixing it.
