my computer's motherboard died again today. it died at the end of april, and it took sony 3 weeks to repair it. right now i'm using the "family" computer in the basement (aka sue's space). and of course, sony only has a 1-year warranty on its products, and i bought the computer last august. i'm sure i'll have to pay a nice sum to get it "fixed," just so that it will break again in 5 months, and i can shell out more money to a bunch of CEO fuckers.

to add to yesterday's rant...

why the hell are we celebrating some fucking merchant who accidentally stumbled upon some land and ignorantly thought it was full of riches, and only cared about it so that he could get some monetary gain out of the deal? what did he do for you or me? besides, of course, start up a cycle of social and civil inequality that's led to the genocide of almost all of the native people who lived here and the enslavement of countless others who were kidnapped from their native land and forced against their will to labor for rich white bastards?

why don't we celebrate a real hero instead? where is harriet tubman day? what in the hell is wrong with this country? why the hell aren't more people fuming about it?

sheep, follow your leader.

columbus day? fuck columbus.

this is what columbus had to say about the native people he encountered when he "discovered" (and thank GOD for that... imagine what the poor brutes of the americas would have done to this place if not for columbus!) what is now haiti:

"they would make fine servants... with fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want."

"[the arawaks] are so naive and so free with their possessions that no one who has not witnessed them would believe it. when you ask for something they have, they never say no. to the contrary, they offer to share with anyone..."

yeah, what a novel idea. fucking europeans.

gold-hungry columbus & co. ordered that all people aged 14 and older collect gold for them to bring back to spain. however, this task was impossible: there was no gold on the island except for dust found in streams. when the arawaks showed up without gold, the spaniards cut off their hands and let them bleed to death.

by 1650, none of the original arawaks or their descendents were left on haiti. they were all killed off either by murder, mutilation, or suicide.

and we have a national holiday for this man. what does that say about our country?

fuck columbus.

and fuck every other rich white man who has raped and murdered millions of people around the world in the name of capitalism.

a message from moveon.org

Last week, congressional Republicans responded to hurricane Katrina by proposing to cut nearly a trillion dollars from vital national services, like health care for the poor and elderly, student loans, Amtrak, and eliminating the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (again!). [1] Republican leaders in Congress are now gauging the public’s response to see if they can get away with their plan. We need to show them the answer is no.

The cost of rebuilding the Gulf Coast, while huge, is far less than what President Bush has given away in tax cuts to just the wealthiest 1% [2]. National crises like Hurricanes Rita and Katrina are times for all Americans to stick together and put in our fair share.

So today we're launching an urgent petition to Congress to fully rebuild the Gulf Coast and pay for it by ending Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy, not by slashing vital services that Americans need. If we can gather a quarter million signatures this week, we can show that this destructive plan just won’t fly.

Please sign today.

this is the proposal made by the Republican Study Committee, if you want to see for yourself:
these people are insane.

you are lazy if you think discrimination and hate are natural, innate aspects of "human nature." you are lazy if you think there will always be rich people and there will always be poor people, and there's no way around it. you are lazy if you think right now is all that matters in the course of history, and past wrongdoings by your government are excusable because you weren't around when it happened. you are lazy if you don't want social justice for all people, whether you understand them or not. you are lazy if you think there is nothing you can do about anything. you are lazy and nothing else if you don't think change is possible.

change is imperative, my friends, and YOU are the ones in charge.
