:: Music: Ray Charles - Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Read Below for Important Info.
Who would have thought that 5/7 blues songs are in the key of A or E? I knew they were popular keys for blues, but c'mon, that's really popular....Anyhow, I spent a few minutes compiling a numer of blues songs that aren't dominated by guitar to put on a cd, after figuring out their key, to be able to jam and practice along to. Maybe even learn the songs by ear. What I learned is that Ray Charles has a great blues voice, and Muddy Waters is the man! I also found a really cool song by him that I might introduce at open mic night. Lots o fun.

For anyone that doesn't know already, there is a party at my house on Sunday at 7/8pm (no school on monday, yay!). It is sponsored by Project SwampGrass - Sierra Student Coalition.

The Loft was great last night...first off, kel if i dont talk to you first, i have pictures from my performance with marky and tom. OK. It was alot of fun last night, lots of people came to play we did Im Tore Down and a familiar song but i couldnt remember the name of it, so I just played along in Aminor. After that I went and picked up kelli and corrie to come watch this weird punk band play with a singing guitarist who dressed as a bunny and ran around humping people while playing guitar. Today Ive got the enviromeet and practicing with marky and borling at midnight...good thing i have cofee

Wow, I had so much fun last night. Kelli's mom (her mom is my best friend) invited me to an open mic night at The Loft in boca. I brought my acoustic and ended up playing four songs with kel's stepdad on sax, moms fiddle teacher's husband onm guitar and another guy on banjo. It was so great and I can't wait to go back. I also had the best guitar lesson ever today. Me and Mark practiced harmonizing and the cool comment for today: "you sounded like david gilmour on another brick only without the delay pedal". I will take that as the third time hes said i sound very professional in a row...oh yea. Guitars rock, and ducks quacking at 2:30am is really weird, kel.

Re: Jessica
1.) What's one thing that you could not live without (aside from things that are actually needed to keep one physically "alive")?
I could not live without my guitar, two weeks without it and I start to get sad.

2. Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
Hopefully living in Charleston, S.C. married, head of the marketing and sales of some big company, playing guitar in a local blues/jazz rock band.

3. If you could have or be anything you wanted, but had to take one year off of your life in order to have/be it, would you do it?What would it be for?
I would do it to be known as the new "Jimi Hendrix", recognized as the greatest modern innovator in guitar music! lol, yea...thatll happen

4. Rap or country music? Why?
Rap, I like rock covers of country songs better than the originals. country gets boring and rap is so easy to have fun with/ make fun of.

5. What is my best quality?
very friendly, easy to say hi/talk to, and i love your hair! it's beautiful

DO ME! DO ME!

Wow...the first hendrix song I have learned on guitar is one of my favorites by him. I took time to learn it well too, just need to polish up my rhythm during the solo (which i still need to learn). My amp makes it sound so great too, my carvin amp has made the greatest sounds ive ever heard.

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past,
And with this crutch, its old age and its wisdom
It whispers, "No, this will be the last."

And The Wind Cries Mary.

My new magazines have been quite amusing today...on the cover of Car & Driver the headline is "Fourgasm!" about 4 cylinder cars. In guitar player one of the articles is titled "Domo Arigato Mr. Vibrato" which is an excellent play on words if you ask me. :-)

Yesterday was alot of fun. Went to Sheila's house in the afternoon (Rose was there too) with the plan of going to see 28 days later. After dealing with her usually psycho brother for a while we went. The movie was so terrible, i couldnt help but laugh...ALOT. After the movie we went to my house and played pool while listening to smooth jazz and AC/DC. well, I watched part of The Wall remembering what a great movie it is, and went to sleep listening to a song about eating cake.

I am hizzle like a motha fizzle. the trip was awesome. Baltimore was exactly as i had remembered it, and i recognized everyone that was alive last time i was there so it wasnt weird or anything. New York was fun, highligh of that was definately going to the Met, kinda dissapointed we didnt check out the gugenheim tho. the highlight of Washington DC was the new FDR memorial which really amazed me, its nothing like your typical memorial...very nice and i bought a book on it. oh yea, i had some maryland blue crabs for the first time and i learned how to eat them pretty quickly so i was happy. id like to get some sent down here, you cant get em from any seafood place. we also went to the coolest bar ive ever been in, Max's that had 69 beers on tap, 212 in bottle, and a nasty beer that had a cofee taste to it. anyhow, baltimore = cool big city the doesnt feel like a big city. fun fun fun

:: Music: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps

The Lynyrd Skynyrd concert last night was amazing! They played my favorite Skynyrd song (Call Me the Breeze), aside from Free Bird, and another (I Know A Little) that I'm very surprised they played. They even did a medly of some lesser known songs and I'm proud to say on all but ONE song i was able to sing every word of every line of the entire concert. I got home and immediately got to learning Gimme Three Steps, in 25 minutes i nailed the rhythm for the entire song and by an hour i could play the itnro solo and the first regular solo as well. If i finish learning it today, it will be the record for me learning an entire song...with Sweet Child of Mine in 3 days as the previous record...lol GO ME! January 23, 1990, Allen Collins left this world, but he will never leave my heart.
